Allegations against Odila Castillo: defense responds

On October 1st, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla released an official rebuttal to the allegations circulated by multiple Panamanian news sources. These reports have been described as deliberate assaults motivated by distinct economic agendas, aiming to tarnish Castillo’s professional standing and personal character.

Carlos Carillo, an attorney on Castillo’s legal team, remarked: “The claims lack any foundation and are designed to hinder the professional journey of a young lawyer, along with her associate, for the benefit of hidden financial motives.”

The defense highlighted that this isn’t the first occurrence of media harassment faced by Castillo. Back in 2021, a Panamanian news organization incorrectly announced an alleged arrest of the attorney related to an investigation, a statement that was later refuted, clarifying that it had no connection to the current issues.

At the press conference, the defense claimed that both the recent accusations and those from 2021 are based on half-truths, intended to compromise her professional career.

Additionally, they argued that the information disseminated in the media regarding Odila Castillo breaches confidentiality principles. They clarified that a portion of the investigation originated from a family issue that had already been resolved, while another component concerns immigration activities and tax filings, along with other data acquired illegally.

The defense further claimed that Castillo has been placed under GPS tracking, which represents a type of illegal monitoring.

Carrillo concluded by stating: “The fundamental rights of our client have been violated, as enshrined in our Constitution and the law. All necessary legal actions will be initiated to ascertain liability for the damages incurred and those that are intended to be inflicted.”
