Atlético de Madrid announce a binding vote to decide whether to recover the old scudetto | Sports

Posted on June 25, 2023

The telematic consultation between its partners carried out by Atlético de Madrid this weekend on the return to the old scudetto has led to a forthcoming vote which will be binding. The first test showed that 44% of the social mass (61,021 out of a total of 138,477) was in favor of returning to the old coat of arms, replaced in 2016 by the current one. For this first consultation carried out, only those of the shareholders who carried it out were counted as votes in favour, and those who did not, were counted as not interested in the question.

Given the favorable current, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, the club’s main shareholder, has published a letter addressed to the members on the institution’s website in which he undertakes to hold a definitive referendum. This is the content of the letter:

72 hours ago the club issued a statement, in which we announced, at the request of the Social Commission, the start of a consultation to find out how many members wanted us to consider the possibility of changing the current championship and returning to the previous one.

When we decided to create this Social Commission, where different ways of living and feeling in our club are represented, we did so with the aim of having a complementary, indeed alternative, vision to that of those who, like us, work daily in the company they manage and protects the club. . The idea consisted in being able to clearly differentiate those corporate aspects from those of the club: feelings, ties, symbols, values and signs of identity.

As the press release points out, in recent years we have taken significant and risky decisions such as changing the stadium, changing the Scudetto, investing in the Academy headquarters, Atlético franchises outside our territory and now a new city of leisure and sport around the stadium, as well as hiring coaches and players to help the team compete at the highest level.

Of course, all designed to bring about a bigger and more global club, with structures that enable us to deliver better and better products, services and experiences to our fans, as well as having football clubs to be proud of.

I would like to appreciate that we were able to carry out this consultation without incident and I want to thank all of you for your cooperation in making this possible.

After verifying the result, in which almost half of our social mass (61,021 members, which represents 44% of the 138,477 members of the club) has expressed their willingness for the club to take the change into consideration, we will convene a Board of Directors as soon as possible possible in order to agree on the launch of a binding vote in which it will be possible to choose between maintaining the current shield or reintroducing the previous one.

In case your decision is to go back to the previous shield, I promise you that the change will be made as soon as possible, obviously respecting the limitations of our sponsorship and licensing agreements.

With the hope and sincere desire that the step we are taking will help all of us who make up this wonderful family, that of the Atleti, to continue to be united, receive an affectionate greeting.

Miguel Angel Gil

CEO
