Mesut Özil has sown controversy in the last few hours for reasons that have nothing to do with football. The former footballer, who recently retired in 2023 and whose final years of his career were spent in Turkish football, has shown a tattoo that raised blisters.
Özil continues to maintain a healthy routine to keep fit and it was with a photo of his personal trainer, Alper Aksaç, when the problem arose. Posted a picture of both he wore the corset and in it a wolf was seen on Özil’s left breastplate.
The fact itself has generated controversy because it is not just any ‘tattoo’. This image it is a symbol of the Nationalist Action Party, the MHP, the Turkish far-right formation. Crowds of people made this gesture ugly to the former Real Madrid and Arsenal player, among others.
It is not the first time that Özil enters these gardens. Known follower of President Erdogan, who sometimes needed the votes of the MHP party, this image would show that the former player has an increasingly harsh and radical discourse with Turkish nationalist ideology and positioning against the Kurds.
