Irishman Robbie Keane, 42, signs a two-year contract

Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv have announced the signing of Irish coach Robbie Keane to fill the post that was vacated by the departure of Spain’s Aitor Karanka this Sunday.

Keane, 42, has signed a two-year deal. As an active player, the former striker has amassed over 400 goals for his various clubs, Leeds, Liverpool, Coventry, West Ham, Aston Villa and country.

He was part of the coaching staff at Leeds last season and was previously an assistant at Middlesbrough and the Irish side.

According to Maccabi Tel Aviv owner Mitch Goldhar, “Robbie brings with him the mentality, character, energy and focus of a winner, qualities he has demonstrated wherever he has played. These characteristics, combined with ambitions for success as a manager , are in line with the objectives.
