The Tri team wins its 12th Gold Cup, making it the most successful in CONCACAF
Santi Giménez was Mexico’s hero after his 88th-minute goal of the final
The Mexican team won the Gold Cup in Los Angeles on Sunday (USA) beating Panama 1-0 in the final in a heartbreaking match goal in the 88th minute by Santi Giménez. The team led by Jaime Lozano reaches its twelfth Gold Cup, the ninth since the CONCACAF format changed.
The Mexican team thus recovers the throne that the United States took away from them in the 2021 final. Forward Santi Giménez was so happy after winning the title: “The truth is, it’s indescribable. I think the only thing I feel is the love and passion for whoever is always there, who is first of all God, my family and the people. Today 75,000 people came and they had to give them this Cup, they had to give it back home,” he said.
After June’s failure in the League of Nations and the expulsion of Argentine Diego Cocca, El Tri bounced back in style with its most successful trophy. Now under the orders of a new coach, Giménez believes that this new Gold Cup for Mexico is confirmation of his change of face.
“And I’m not saying it in words. It’s seen now with the title, with this final. The way the group has come together and been able to carry this forward is impressive”He added.
FC Barcelona player, Julian Araujohe returns to Barcelona with a championship under his arm despite not having enjoyed all the expected minutes.
